First Time Homebuyer Program
Buying a home may be the largest financial investment you make. Realizing the American Dream is a homebuyer training course designed to help individuals and families achieve their dream of homeownership. Learn how to obtain the Certificate of Education required by many home mortgage lenders and various down-payment assistance programs.
Orientation
A one-hour introductory class answering the key questions about the first-time home ownership program. Learn about the homeownership process and how NHS can partner with you every step of the way. Discover the pathway to homeownership and the education opportunities to help you in preparation for buying a home.
Financial Fitness
A four-week series designed to help you change behaviors that may keep you from achieving your financial goals. We will help you to understand your current financial situation and how that may affect your ability to obtain a mortgage loan. Finally, we will discuss the steps necessary to achieve your financial goals. This class is free, fun, and interactive.
We will teach you:
- How to live on a budget.
- Develop a spending plan that works.
- Learn how to identify wasteful spending.
- Discover how to save money and even achieve financial goals.
- Make credit a tool, not a trap.
Homebuyer Education
A virtual four-week series providing general instruction to increase your knowledge and build new skills in the area of homeownership. Subjects covered include homeownership readiness and affordability; money and credit management; types of properties and financing available; purchase, mortgage, and closing processes; as well as home maintenance and financial management after you’ve purchased your home. You will even have the opportunity to meet some key industry professionals along the way.
If you don’t have access to a computer, you’re welcome to join the class from the community room at our facility.
Pre-Purchase Counseling
Work one-on-one with a HUD-certified housing counselor who will review your credit, income, and budget to see how close you are to buying a home. If you’re not quite ready yet, your counselor will help you create a simple, step-by-step plan and continue working with you until you are.
Your counselor meets you where you are and provides personalized guidance, tools, and resources to help you prepare for financing, buying, and maintaining your home. Whether you’re just getting started or ready for next steps, they’ll support you every step of the way.

eHome America Homebuyer Education
A fee-based, self-paced on-line course offered for those individuals whose schedule does not allow them to attend our free, zoom series.
